Anti-racism campaigners staged a protest on the Isle of Wight yesterday afternoon (Monday) as Nigel Farage visited the Island ahead of May’s local elections.
Dozens of demonstrators gathered outside Robin Hill, holding signs reading “Hate Is Not Welcome Here” and “Farage Is Trump’s Puppet”.
The protest was organised by the Island branch of Stand Up To Racism shortly before a Reform UK rally at GG’s Bar and Restaurant.
Supporters were boarding coaches at Robin Hill to travel to the event, which was held in the run-up to the Isle of Wight Council elections on 7 May.
Sophus Magill, who is also a councillor on Wootton Bridge Parish Council, said protesters were demonstrating against what they see as “divisive” politics.

He accused Reform of promoting “far right-wing politics” and said the group believed Nigel Farage’s rhetoric about immigration was contributing to division.
Another protester, Corinne Perks, from Newport, said she believed the party’s policies were “dangerous and divisive”.
Responding to the protest before addressing supporters, Mr Farage dismissed the demonstrators as the “open borders mob”.
He said they were “old-fashioned Trotskyites” who represented “the fringe of the fringe” of public opinion and accused them of shouting rather than engaging in debate.
