An air ambulance was called to Ryde this lunchtime (Monday) to help transfer a seriously ill patient to a mainland hospital.
The helicopter from Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance was dispatched from Redhill in Surrey at the request of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
It landed at Smallbrook Stadium on the southern outskirts of Ryde at around 12:35pm, with a paramedic crew meeting the aircraft on the centre green of the speedway track at Ashey.
The patient is now being transferred into the helicopter and will be flown directly to Queen Alexandra Hospital on the mainland.
Emergency services say the out-of-area aircraft was deployed to ensure the patient could receive specialist care as quickly as possible.
