Isle of Wight councillors have challenged Southern Water over sewage spills, flooding, ageing infrastructure and roadwork disruption, as the company pledged further investment and improvements across the Island.

🚨 More than 100 residents joined East Wight MP Joe Robertson on a Bembridge beach to oppose plans that could see additional sewage discharges close to the harbour and Priory Bay.

Concerns have been raised over Southern Water's plans for an overflow pipe at Bembridge Beach, with residents, councillors and community groups calling for further discussions on the project.

The Isle of Wight Council has urged people to avoid the water and keep children and animals away from affected areas as a precaution.

Several gardens have been flooded with sewage as a result of mains burst in East Cowes this morning.
