'Incredibly Sad': Isle Of Wight Rescue Hedgehog Norman Dies

Norman the hedgehog

A rescue hedgehog on the Isle of Wight that was much loved and well known by Islanders has died.

Norman was rescued four years ago by Save Our Hedgehogs Isle of Wight after he was injured by a strimmer, which blinded him for life.

Volunteers at the charity say they are "incredibly sad" to learn that he has died of old age.

Norman has been described as "infamous" by the charity and took part in many functions with them, visiting schools, Tapnell Farm Park and Isle of Wight Radio.

Volunteer Will Taylor told Isle of Wight Radio:

'It is incredibly sad, I will miss taking him to shows. Bless his little hedgehog heart.'

The charity, which works all year round to rescue hedgehogs across the Island has made a record number of rescues this year with 98.

In the summer, the charity released a hedgehog called Romeo into the wild in a bid to find his Juliet, as previously reported.

For the first time in the Island's history, hedgehog triplets have been born in captivity in Seaview, as exclusively reported.

If you are concerned about a hedgehog, you can contact the charity via their Facebook Page here.
