Fire At Former Sandown Care Home Being Treated As Arson

A fire at a derelict care home in Sandown is being treated as arson.

Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed no arrests have yet been made, but investigations are continuing.

As Isle of Wight Radio previously reported, a blaze broke out in a bedroom of the former Stonehaven Care Home on Carter Street, Sandown.

Police were called by the fire service at around 5.30pm yesterday.

Fire appliances from across the Island were also called.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said:

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of the fire, which is being treated as arson.

"Playing with flammable materials, or deliberately starting fires recklessly endangers lives and could result in someone being killed."

"We will be following up all lines of enquiry and encourage anyone with information to call police on 101, quoting 44210199826."

The fire was put out after around two hours.
