Coronavirus: Isle Of Wight Records Another Five Community Deaths

New figures show another five people have passed away on the Isle of Wight after testing positive for coronavirus.

In the week ending January 15, there were three deaths recorded in Island care homes.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has published its weekly data this morning (Tuesday).

A further two deaths have also been added to last week's total - one came in a care home and one was registered at home.

Since the start of the pandemic, the figures show 54 coronavirus-related deaths have occurred in care homes, four at home and one at the Island's hospice.

In total, 165 people have now died on the Isle of Wight after testing positive for the illness. St Mary's Hospital has recorded 106 of those deaths.

This month (January) 57 people have died on the Island with the illness.

NHS England figures, showing daily hospital deaths, are expected to be published later.

The Island's seven-day rolling case average, per 100,00, is now at 470.5 - on Friday (23) it stood at 611.5.

Figures released yesterday (Monday) show the rate of new cases on the Island is continuing to fall.
