Cases Rise By Four On Isle Of Wight As First Island Vaccine Centre Revealed

There have been four additional cases of coronavirus registered on the Isle of Wight today (Friday).

According to official figures, it takes the total number of cases on the Island since the pandemic started to 988.

Nationally, another 504 people have died with coronavirus in the UK.

There have also been nearly 16,300 new cases recorded in the past 24 hours. 

Meanwhile, The first batch of coronavirus vaccines have reached Northern Ireland after arriving from England overnight. They are being held in a secret central storage facility, before being rolled out next week. 

Earlier Isle of Wight Radio exclusively revealed The West Wight Sports and Community Centre will play a key role in the Island's vaccination program.

The Freshwater site has been chosen by the NHS as a location to roll out the jab from.

Other locations which are said to be under consideration include Ryde’s Westridge Centre and The Riverside Centre in Newport.

Soon tests will also be rolled out on the Isle of Wight which will pick up the virus even if you don't show symptoms.

The Isle of Wight Council has confirmed it is working with the Department of Health and Social Care to identify the settings which would benefit from being tested in this way, as previously reported by Isle of Wight Radio.
