Gather your crew and make some waves for Wessex Cancer Support this summer by entering a team into the charity’s first Dragon Boat Race.
Launched today (Wednesday), the new fundraiser will take place at Island Harbour on Saturday 30th August, with teams competing in heats for a spot in the grand final.
“We’re really excited to bring dragon boat racing to the Island for an unforgettable day on and off the water,” said Laura Haytack, Wessex Cancer Support’s Isle of Wight Fundraising Manager.
“Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a complete beginner, this high-energy challenge is perfect for everyone.
“It’s an ideal event for corporates or groups of friends and family, so get your team together and bring on the fun.
“We’re also planning an after-party, so it promises to be a brilliant afternoon and evening.”
Teams of 11 - ten rowers and one drummer – are needed in each boat, with team entry costing £330 (£30 per crew member) and a fundraising target of £1,100 (£100 each).
Rouse, WH Brading and Biscoes Solicitors have sponsored the event, with the latter two already entering teams, alongside Solent Cruises and Robin Hill.
“We’re thrilled to lend our support to this event,” said Teena Hibberd, Financial Director at WH Brading.
“It’s perfect for a company like ours and the team is really excited about the race.
“We like to give back and Wessex Cancer Support does really important work on the Island, so this gives us chance to do our bit to help and have great fun at the same time.”
Money raised will help Wessex Cancer Support continue its work in providing well-being and emotional support to people living with cancer.
