Staff at Isle of Wight NHS Trust are being recognised through an award that gives patients and families the chance to say thank you.

More than 50 nominations have been submitted for this year’s Delivering Excellence Awards in the People’s Choice category, each highlighting exceptional care, kindness and professionalism shown by individuals across the Trust.

Organisers have thanked everyone who took the time to share their experiences and recognise those who have made a real difference during some of life’s most challenging moments.

A judging panel has now selected a shortlist, and voting is open to decide this year’s winner.

Among those nominated is Dr Laura Bohane from the Paediatric Diabetes Team.

Dr Bohane has been praised for her dedication, compassion and leadership in supporting children and families affected by diabetes.

One nomination highlights her ability to listen, support parents as equal partners in care, and ensure children feel safe, understood and confident in managing their condition.

Also shortlisted is Karolina Adamski, a Student Nurse Apprentice with the Clinical Education Team.

She has been recognised for her personalised approach to patient care, particularly her support for vulnerable patients, those living with dementia, and individuals with additional needs.

Her efforts to go beyond her role, including supporting patients experiencing loneliness, have been highlighted as making a lasting difference.

David Turner, Lead Practice Development Nurse for Urgent and Emergency Care, is also among those nominated.

He has been described as a “hidden hero”, supporting and mentoring hundreds of staff while helping to ensure high standards of patient care.

His work in training and development has been credited with improving both staff confidence and patient safety across the emergency department.

Mary Silos, a Clinical Practice Educator in Urgent and Emergency Care, has also been recognised.

Her nomination highlights her role in strengthening staff skills, promoting patient safety, and supporting colleagues across the department.

She is praised for leading by example and maintaining high standards of compassionate, professional care.

The ICU team has also been nominated, with one family sharing their experience of the care their loved one received during a critical illness.

They praised the team’s compassion, communication and support, saying they were made to feel like part of a family during a very difficult time.

The People’s Choice Award forms part of the Trust’s annual Delivering Excellence Awards, celebrating the work of staff across all services.

Voting is now open and will close on Friday 8 May 2026.

The winner will be announced at the Delivering Excellence Awards on Tuesday 16 June 2026.
