Ventnor have secured promotion to Hampshire Counties Two following a 57–21 win over Portsmouth at Watcombe.

The visitors saw plenty of possession in the opening stages but were unable to break through a disciplined Ventnor defence.

Despite facing pressure at the scrum, the home side maintained control of their set pieces throughout the first half.

Ventnor opened the scoring when Harvey Wheeler crossed the line, with Josh Ford adding the conversion.

Further tries followed from Tom Branagh, who scored twice, as Ventnor built a commanding lead. Ford also added a try of his own, converting his efforts to help extend the advantage.

Portsmouth responded with a try after capitalising on a lapse in concentration, but Ventnor quickly regained momentum.

Wheeler added his second of the match before Portsmouth were awarded a penalty try just before half-time, making it 31–14 at the break.

The second half saw Ventnor continue their attacking form.

Jason Coltham finished off a flowing team move to score in the corner, before further tries from Will Broomfield and Cody Hayman extended the lead. Ford added several successful conversions during the half.

Portsmouth had the final say with a converted try from a maul as the match ended, but it was Ventnor who secured a comprehensive victory and confirmed promotion.

After the game, head coach Damien Marriott praised his side’s performance and their efforts across the season, highlighting their consistency and commitment in achieving promotion.

Cody Hayman was named Man of the Match.

Ventnor return to action on Saturday 28 March when they face Isle of Wight at Watcombe.
