Ventnor Rugby Club have finished with a bronze medal at the Launceston 7s tournament after a string of impressive performances.
The Island side made the early start of a 4.30am Red Funnel ferry crossing worthwhile, beginning the competition with wins over Devon Deaf Men and Castles Are Forever.
They then produced two closely fought draws against eventual finalists We Are One Men and Chae 7s.
Ventnor led both matches for long periods, but were denied victory late on — with We Are One Men scoring a last-minute equaliser, before Chae 7s snatched a draw with the final play of the game.
Their final pool match against Jagerbombers was another thriller.
Ventnor found themselves 4-1 down at half-time, but produced a superb second-half comeback to level the scores at 4-4.
Jagerbombers eventually edged the contest 6-5 after finding the winning try, but Ventnor’s performances throughout the tournament secured them a deserved third-place finish.
The Ventnor squad was:
Harry Bexon-Stone, Alec Bulpitt, Gavin Ford, Josh Ford, Cody Hayman, Max Henley, Hayden Lythgoe, Damien Marriott, Lewy Morton, Harry Ottley, Tom Scadden and Ben Souter.
