A new community group has been formed in Ventnor to give businesses and residents a stronger voice over the impact of road closures and utility works in the town.
The Ventnor Roads Group has been established by members of the town's business community and Ventnor Town Councillors following concerns raised by the Ventnor Traders Association.
Traders say frequent roadworks, including those carried out by Island Roads and utility companies, have affected businesses, with some reporting significant drops in footfall and income.
Concerns have also been raised about poor communication over planned works, confusing diversion signs and the impact of multiple road closures taking place at the same time.
The new group aims to improve communication between the community and the organisations responsible for roadworks.
It plans to gather concerns from residents and traders, push for more advance notice of planned works, request clearer diversion routes and work more closely with Island Roads, the Isle of Wight Council and utility providers.
Ventnor Town Councillor Karl Hunter said:
"This group represents a collective effort to ensure that those responsible for roadworks understand the real impact their decisions have on our community.
"We're not here to obstruct necessary works, but to demand better communication, planning and consideration for local businesses."
The Ventnor Roads Group is encouraging local businesses and residents to share their experiences and concerns as it begins its work.
