Ventnor produced a strong all-round performance to secure a 30-17 victory over the Isle of Wight team, in a competitive encounter that saw both sides enjoy spells on top.
The hosts made a fast start, applying early pressure through their defence and set-piece.
Tom Branagh crossed for two first-half tries, with further scores helping Ventnor build a 17-0 lead.
However, team Isle of Wight responded well, showing resilience to hit back with two tries of their own to reduce the deficit to 17-10.
A penalty just before the break extended Ventnor’s advantage to 20-10 at half-time, but the visitors carried their momentum into the second period.
A converted try following a lineout brought Isle of Wight to within three points at 20-17, setting up a tense final quarter.
Discipline proved costly for the visitors, who were reduced to 13 men at one stage after a series of yellow cards.
Ventnor capitalised, with Harvey Wheeler finishing off a well-worked move to extend the lead.
The decisive moment came late on when a loose pass was intercepted deep inside Ventnor’s half, allowing Alec Bulpitt to run clear and seal the result.
Despite the scoreline, Isle of Wight pushed throughout and tested Ventnor, who were forced to work hard to maintain control and close out the win.
