Ventnor RFC were defeated 45-15 by Fordingbridge in an entertaining friendly on Saturday.
Travelling with just 12 players, Ventnor were boosted by three from the home side, with the match played in good spirit and featuring plenty of open rugby.
The Islanders made a strong start, taking the lead through Pat Banks after good work from Olly Wood, Max Henley and Tom Scadden.
However, Fordingbridge responded well, using their forward strength to build a 21-5 advantage.
Ventnor hit back before the break, with Joel Cocks crossing the line following a well-worked move involving Henrik Brown, Blake Tombleson and Scadden, making it 21-10 at half-time.
The hosts took control in the second half, combining power and attacking flair to extend their lead, despite determined defending from Ventnor.
Banks added his second try late on, but Fordingbridge finished strongly to secure a 45-15 victory.
Joel Cocks was named Man of the Match, while Tom Scadden earned Moment of the Match honours.
Ventnor return to league action next weekend, with the 1st XV travelling to Aldershot & Fleet and the 2nds hosting Ellingham and Ringwood.
