With their league fixtures cancelled, Ventnor and Isle of Wight rugby clubs came together at Watcombe for a special tribute match in memory of Ventnor legends Keith Fradgley and Tristan Price.
The impromptu game, with players frequently swapping shirts, was played in the spirit of celebration rather than competition, but still produced some fine rugby.
Tries were scored by George Huish (3), Jack Rushton, Jason Coltham, Josh Ford, Tom Branagh, Ben Savill, and Tom Scadden.
Ventnor’s squad featured players including Tom Branagh, Jason Coltham, Josh Ford, Jack Rushton, and debutant Archie Lucy, with Hayden Lythgoe named A.J. Wells Man of the Match and Tom Scadden awarded the Red Funnel Moment of the Match.
Coaches Damien Marriott, Clive Cardwell-Hill, and Todd Riches oversaw the fixture, with physio Todd Connor on hand.
Keith Fradgley, a founding member of Ventnor Rugby Club in 1974, served as club president for 15 years and remained a dedicated supporter until his health declined.
Tristan “Beast” Price, who first played for Ventnor in 1996, was remembered for his exceptional skill on the pitch and warmth off it.
In his honour, Hampshire clubs rested the No 1 shirt for the day.
The tribute match also served as a community moment, with spectators and supporters contributing to funds to support Tristan’s family, highlighting the deep respect both players held within the rugby community.
