Ryde Phone Box Gallery Showcases Tribute To Famous Artists

A unique art installation celebrating some of the world's most influential artists has gone on display in Ryde's smallest gallery.

Local artist Mary Flynn's latest exhibition, How Many Artists Does It Take To Make A Call?, has transformed the Re gallery on Lind Street into a colourful tribute to the artists who have inspired her work.

Created using upcycled textiles, printmaking and stitch techniques, the exhibition features a collection of portraits of well-known figures from the art world.

Mary, who is known for her mixed-media artwork incorporating recycled materials and objects collected from local beaches, says the display offers visitors "a journey around the art world".

Re co-founder Zoë Barker said the installation provides an opportunity for people to engage with art in an everyday setting.

Located inside a former red telephone box, Re was created after Ryde Town Council acquired the kiosk through BT's Adopt A Kiosk scheme.

The decommissioned phone box was then transformed into a miniature gallery space by local artists Zoë Barker and Anmarie Bowler.

The exhibition is now on display on Lind Street and can be viewed free of charge.
