Ventnor 2nd XV brought their season to a close with a 38-22 defeat away at Christchurch in the Hampshire Premiership South.
The hosts made a fast start, running in three early tries to take control of the match inside the opening 20 minutes.
Ventnor responded well, with Harvey Wheeler crossing to get them on the scoreboard before Will Broomfield added another to reduce the deficit.
Christchurch extended their lead before half-time, but a second try from Broomfield and a conversion from captain Warren Riches kept Ventnor within touching distance at the break.
After the restart, Ventnor grew into the game, with their forwards providing a solid platform and the backline creating several opportunities.
Despite a strong spell of pressure and a late try from Pat Banks, the visitors were unable to close the gap.
Christchurch added a further score in the second half to secure the win, while Ventnor were left to reflect on missed chances in the closing stages.
Despite the result, there were positives for Ventnor, particularly in their second-half performance and the contributions of several younger players stepping up to senior rugby.
Ventnor now turn their attention to the Community Plate quarter-final away to Old Glynonians on May 2.
