It was a successful weekend for Vectis RFC’s youth sides, with victories on the road, strong performances at home and multiple TREDS Awards recognising sportsmanship and teamwork.
The Colts secured a hard-fought 17–14 league win away to Petersfield, holding firm defensively in a tight contest.
Billy G, Ben W and Freddie K crossed for tries, with a crucial conversion from Preston – who was named Man of the Match – proving decisive.
At the Winchester Festival, both the Under 8s and Under 9s were voted by opposition coaches to receive the TREDS Award for Teamwork, Resilience, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship.
The U8s ensured every player scored across six matches, while the U9s impressed against strong mainland opposition with their defensive effort and developing contact play.
Back on the Island, the Under 10s hosted Midhurst in a friendly round-robin, earning praise for their teamwork and attitude in testing conditions.
The Under 16s, travelling with a bare squad of 15, showed real character to battle back in the second half against Eastleigh Pirates after trailing at the break.
Across all age groups, the club highlighted the positive spirit shown by players in challenging weather, with fixtures taking place both on and off the Island.
Vectis RFC continues to welcome new players from Under 6 to Under 18, with upcoming home fixtures scheduled next weekend.
