Newport Energy Hub To Collect Football Boots For National Rebooted Day

People on the Isle of Wight are being encouraged to donate unwanted football boots as part of a nationwide campaign to make the sport more accessible.

The Newport Utilita Energy Hub will be one of 12 locations across the UK taking part in National Football Rebooted Day on Saturday, October 3.

From 10am until 2pm, people will be able to drop off football boots in good, reusable condition at the collection point at 121 High Street.

The boots will be refurbished and redistributed through local football club foundations, helping young players access equipment which might otherwise be unaffordable.

Visitors to the Newport event will also have the chance to take part in football-themed games and competitions, including ‘Guess the Footballer’ and the ‘Lace Race’.

There will also be prize draws, with rewards including tickets for Southampton and Portsmouth matches, signed football memorabilia and an energy-efficient air fryer.

The national event will be led from Derby by former England goalkeeper and Football Rebooted ambassador David James MBE.

Organisers say the initiative has already helped thousands of pairs of football boots find new homes, while reducing waste and helping to remove some of the financial barriers to taking part in the sport.

The event is free and open to everyone.
