Vectis Corps Of Drums Wins Best Band Award At Shaftesbury Carnival

An Isle of Wight marching band has won the top prize at a carnival in Dorset.

Vectis Corps of Drums received the John Pike Celebration Cup for Best All-Round Band at Shaftesbury Carnival.

The band has taken part in the event for the past five years, with this year's carnival attracting large crowds along the route.

Five bands competed for a series of awards, including Best Senior and Junior Deportment, Most Entertaining Band and Most Musically Talented Band.

The John Pike Celebration Cup recognised the best overall band, with Vectis Corps of Drums chosen as the winner by judge Mike Shoemark.

Bandmaster Dave Lewis said one of the highlights was a massed band performance involving three bands before the carnival.

He said it was particularly rewarding to see younger and adult members of Vectis performing together and supporting each other.

The band thanked the carnival organisers, volunteers, judges, fellow bands and the crowds who turned out to support the event.
