There was plenty to celebrate for Isle of Wight rugby clubs over the weekend, with Vectis Rugby and Sandown & Shanklin both enjoying strong performances.

Vectis's Under-16s recorded an emphatic 48-19 league win over Bognor at Ventnor, with a strong defensive display and effective set-piece play helping them to victory.

The club's younger age groups also impressed at the New Milton Festival, with the Under-9s going unbeaten in their first-ever contact matches and the Under-10s adapting well to their first competitive contact rugby of the season.

More than 700 people have now taken part in Vectis's activities across its age groups, with the club also continuing its work around mental health awareness.

Meanwhile, Sandown & Shanklin opened their home campaign with a 41-10 victory over Millbrook.

The Hurries produced an attacking display at the Fairway, scoring seven tries, including two each for Tommy Scourfield and Zak Chiverton.

There were also tries for Hugo Jolliffe, Hristo Hristov and Lewis Murray, while Rob Eston completed a flowing team move late in the match.

Tom Marriott was named Wight Knuckle Man of the Match after an impressive performance.
