Vecta House care home in Newport echoed with laughter, music, and patriotic cheer

yesterday as residents, staff, families, and friends gathered in its beautifully

decorated gardens to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE)

Day.

The vibrant celebration transformed the outdoor space into a sea of red, white,

and blue, adorned with cheerful bunting, balloons, flags, and celebratory banners.

The afternoon was a delightful blend of entertainment and remembrance, offering

something for everyone.

Guests enjoyed delicious treats from a variety of stalls, including freshly popped popcorn courtesy of Popping Popcorn and sweet, fluffy candy floss from Island Floss.

Adding a touch of playful fun, Tracy's Face Painting brought smiles to faces with creative designs, while her balloon twisting skills captivated young and old alike.

The air was filled with nostalgic melodies as the talented duo Double Take took to the stage, performing classic wartime tunes that had everyone waving their flags and singing along.

Later in the afternoon, the energy shifted as the charismatic Bonnie got residents and guests alike on their feet, dancing to beloved hits from the 1950s and 60s.

A poignant memorabilia table served as a focal point for reflection and conversation.

A fascinating array of war-related items, thoughtfully loaned for the occasion by the

wonderful Hanna Nixon, sparked memories and provided a tangible link to the historic significance of the day.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, Vecta House’s talented chef prepared a mouth-watering selection of cakes, which were enjoyed alongside classic hotdogs, all washed down with refreshing glasses of Pimms.

The care home expressed its sincere gratitude to Island Foods for their generous donation of the sausages, which were a popular addition to the celebratory menu.

The afternoon was a resounding success, filled with shared moments of joy and camaraderie.

Staff and residents enthusiastically joined in the fun, with many sporting colourful face paint designs. The atmosphere was one of pure celebration, a testament to the enduring spirit of unity and remembrance that VE Day represents.

Tanya Everson Lifestyle Leader at Vecta House said

“It was truly heartwarming to see everyone come together to mark this important milestone in history.
