More than 270 primary school children from across the Isle of Wight took part in a major Tag Rugby Festival at Vectis Rugby Club this week.
The event brought together pupils from Years 3 to 6 for a day of matches focused on teamwork, sportsmanship and grassroots rugby development.
The festival was organised by the Jason Robinson Foundation alongside the Isle of Wight Community Sports Coaching team, with support from local sponsor Isle of Wight Tomatoes.
Founded by former England rugby star Jason Robinson OBE, the foundation aims to use sport to inspire young people and help build confidence and life skills.
Although Robinson was unable to attend in person, he sent a video message wishing all of the players the best for the tournament.
A spokesperson for Vectis Rugby Club praised the “incredible” energy and skill shown throughout the day and thanked schools, parents, teachers and volunteers for supporting the event.
Vectis RFC says it has seen record growth in its youth teams during the 2025/26 season and is continuing to encourage more young players to get involved in the sport.
The club will launch summer touch rugby and skills sessions for boys and girls in school Years 4 and 5 after half-term, with weekly sessions taking place at Wootton Rec from 3 June.
