An urgent appeal has been issued to help locate a missing dog in the Sandown area, who has now been missing for over a week.

Despite ongoing efforts from volunteers with Drone SAR For Lost Dogs IOW, who have been searching day and night since last Saturday, the dog has not yet been safely recovered.

Those involved in the search say the dog is extremely nervous and timid, and are warning that well-meaning attempts by members of the public to approach her are making the situation more difficult.

Each time she is approached, she panics and runs further away, reducing the chances of a safe recovery.

Search teams are now urging residents and visitors to follow strict guidance if they believe they have seen the dog.

The public is being asked:

  • Do not call out to the dog

  • Do not make eye contact

  • Do not attempt to approach or catch her

Instead, it is vital the dog is allowed to settle in one area so that a controlled and safe capture plan can be put in place.

People are also being urged not to go out searching, as this can unintentionally push the dog further away and delay efforts.

If the dog is sighted, sightings should be reported immediately to:

  • Drone SAR For Lost Dogs IOW – 07876 011574

  • TrackAdog Team – 07855 018337

Every reported sighting is said to be crucial in helping build a picture of the dog’s movements and increasing the chances of bringing her home safely.

Those leading the search say they are grateful for the community’s support and are urging people to share the appeal to raise awareness.
