Two-Week Closure Planned For Arreton Bus Stop Improvements

Drivers are being reminded that a section of the A3056 at Arreton will close next week while work is carried out to improve two bus stops.

Island Roads is due to begin the latest phase of the Isle of Wight Council's programme to make public transport facilities safer and more accessible on Monday 7 September.

The work will focus on bus stops in Sandown Road, outside Pyle Cottages and Newbarn Business Park, where hard-standing areas will be enlarged to provide safer access for passengers.

The improvements are being funded by the Department for Transport through the Council's Safer Roads programme.

The project is expected to take around two weeks to complete, although the timetable could change because of weather or unexpected ground conditions. Island Roads says it will aim to finish the work as quickly as possible.

A road closure will be needed while the work is underway to protect the workforce. Traffic will be diverted through Arreton, Apse Heath, Godshill, Rookley and Blackwater.

Island Roads hopes to reopen the road at weekends where it is safe and practical to do so.

However, depending on progress, temporary traffic lights may remain in place.

Access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout the works, although some journeys may require motorists to follow the diversion depending on their direction of travel.

Further details of the next stage of the A3056 bus stop improvement scheme, at Hale Common, are expected to be announced soon.
