Two Rescued After Hours In Sea Following Boat Capsize

Two people have been rescued after spending up to five hours in the sea when their boat capsized off the Isle of Wight.

HM Coastguard was alerted shortly before 11.30pm on Wednesday following reports of people shouting for help near Priory Bay, between Seaview and St Helens.

Bembridge RNLI launched both its all-weather and inshore lifeboats, while a Coastguard rescue helicopter and teams from Bembridge and Ventnor were also sent to the scene.

The two casualties were found in the water off Nettlestone after their boat overturned earlier in the evening.

They were brought aboard the lifeboat and taken to Bembridge Harbour, where they were met by Coastguard rescue officers and ambulance crews for assessment.

Both RNLI lifeboats returned to station in the early hours after the rescue operation was completed.
