Two Kittens Rescued After Being Found In A Box On Newport-Cowes Cycle Track

Two young kittens are being hand-reared after they were found abandoned in a box on the Newport-Cowes cycle track.

The kittens, believed to be just 10 to 14 days old, were discovered by a member of the public before being taken to a veterinary practice in Newport.

Staff contacted Friends of the Animals to ask if they could help.

The charity says the kittens were suffering from fleas, while one also had a dirty eye.

They had already been given a syringe feed by veterinary staff when the charity arrived.

An experienced volunteer, Jane, has now taken the kittens home to hand-rear them.

They have been named Scooter and Vespa by staff at the veterinary practice, with Friends of the Animals hoping both will continue to thrive.

The charity says it is also concerned about the kittens' mother, and whether there could be other kittens nearby that need rescuing.

Anyone with information about the kittens or their mother is being asked to contact Friends of the Animals in confidence.

The charity is also reminding cat owners about the importance of having cats spayed and male cats neutered, saying it can help prevent unwanted litters.

Friends of the Animals says it can help towards the cost of neutering.

Meanwhile, the charity's day began with another animal rescue, after a young fox was found on a driveway in Newport.

The fox had managed to drag herself into a homeowner's porch, but sadly died before volunteers could reach her.
