Two seaside chalets in an Isle of Wight village will be demolished, paving the way for a new two-bedroom house.
The council has waved through Mr and Mrs Huxford’s planning application to demolish 15 and 16 Marsh Road in Gurnard – no. 15 being in a ‘very poor state of repair’, according to a submitted Planning Statement.
The Huxfords’ proposal includes the construction of a new home, classed as market housing, at the application site looking onto the Solent.
Plans show the building, raised 1.3 metres above the ground with supporting columns, would have two bedrooms, a bathroom and a kitchen/living area.
It would also comprise a small, decked area and two existing parking spaces.
“There has been a significant change in the style and type of properties that have been built along Marsh Road and this proposal continues the pattern of re-development,” the Planning Statement notes.
“The open rear (north) grassed aspect will be retained and the design and materials used will sit comfortably within the new emerging street scene and its coastal setting.”
A County Hall decision report says:
“The proposed replacement chalet would be proportionate in design and scale to the existing dwelling and would not adversely impact on the amenities of neighbouring property occupiers or the surrounding area.”
Planners attached three conditions to the approval to reduce flooding risk and comply with Island planning policy and national legislation.
