Two Arrested Again Over Death Of One-Year-Old Girl On Isle Of Wight

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary has provided an update on the investigation into the death of one-year-old Jayla-Jean Mclaren in Newport.


A 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, both from Newport, were previously arrested on suspicion of murder and released on conditional bail until 13 February while inquiries continued.



Both remain under investigation for murder and were further arrested today (Tuesday January 27) on suspicion of:


  • Causing or allowing the death of a child

  • Causing assault, ill treatment, neglect or abandonment of a child or young person to cause unnecessary suffering or injury


They are currently in police custody.


Detective Chief Inspector Gemma Hunter said:

“We understand that cases such as this are incredibly concerning and upsetting.
"However, we kindly ask that you do not speculate on this case, as it could potentially impact any future court proceedings.
"We will provide further updates on this investigation when appropriate.”
