Major disruption is affecting Sandown and surrounding areas today (Monday) after the closure of several key roads has led to significant traffic delays in and out of the town.

Newport Road, between Lake and Apse Heath, has been fully closed, causing long queues and congestion for drivers travelling through the area.

At the same time, Broadway – between Melville Street and Old Reservoir Lane – is also shut, forcing all traffic onto Perowne Way and placing further pressure on local diversion routes.

Despite temporary traffic lights at Lake Hill and Newport Road, congestion has built up across the diversion network, with motorists experiencing slow-moving traffic throughout peak travel times.

The A3056 had previously been operating under temporary traffic lights before today’s full closure was brought in as works continue.

Delays on Broadway are expected to remain in place until Wednesday (3 June), while restrictions on Newport Road are due to continue until Tuesday (9 June).

Drivers are being urged to allow extra time for journeys and consider alternative routes where possible.
