Here’s the latest on travel across the Island as of around 09:20 this morning (Wednesday).
Delays are continuing into Newport, particularly along the Fairlee Road diversion route.
Traffic is heavy on Whiterails Road, Staplers and Long Lane, with further congestion reported around Downend as commuters make their way into the town.
Fairlee Road itself remains closed while major sewer and water connection works are carried out, with deep excavations and tree works ongoing.
In Ryde, Binstead Road is into the second week of a two-week closure between Stonepitts Close and Gwydyr Close.
A diversion remains in place while gas and roadworks continue.
Over in Lake and Apse Heath, Southern Water works are still causing disruption on Newport Road between Morrisons roundabout and Apse Heath.
Two-way temporary traffic lights are in operation, so expect some delays through that stretch.
In Sandown, temporary traffic lights are in place at the top of The Broadway, which may also slow traffic slightly in the area.
There are several full road closures to be aware of today.
Wellow Main Road is shut between 08:00 and 16:00, with bus services diverting via Ningwood Hill and Bouldnor Road.
The main road through Rookley also remains closed until Friday, with buses diverting via Merstone.
In St Helens, Eddington Road continues to be closed due to ongoing electricity network works, impacting multiple bus routes with diversions in place via Brading and Nettlestone.
Elsewhere, St John’s Road in Wroxall remains affected by embankment works, with a new retaining wall being installed.
Looking ahead, drivers in Newport should be aware that St George’s Way will become one-way from Monday (27 April) between St George’s Roundabout and Shide Road for around three weeks, with a signed diversion in place.
On the water, there have been some disruption this morning, with several Red Jet sailings cancelled due to a fuel issue.
However, Wightlink, Hovertravel and the Floating Bridge are all running as normal.
If you’re heading out this morning, allow extra time for your journey, especially around Newport where delays remain ongoing.
