Thousands of people in Cowes could be missing out on faster, more reliable broadband, according to Openreach.
The company says more than 9,000 homes and businesses in the town are now able to upgrade to its new Full Fibre network — but only around 25 per cent have made the switch so far.
Openreach has invested £2.8 million in the project, which has connected around three-quarters of properties in Cowes.
Full Fibre offers gigabit-capable speeds, allowing multiple devices to run smoothly at the same time, helping households and businesses keep up with the demands of modern digital life.

Martin Williams, Openreach’s Partnership Director for the South West, said:
“Fast and reliable full fibre broadband gives households and businesses a significant boost.
"But it’s important to remember that upgrades don’t happen automatically — people need to order it to take advantage of the technology.”
He added that Openreach’s network is open to the widest range of broadband providers, meaning residents can shop around for competitive deals, which in some cases may cost the same — or even less — than their current package.
The company also highlighted its commitment to sustainability through its “Let’s Reach Zero” strategy, aiming to cut carbon emissions, reduce waste and protect nature while rolling out the technology.
Nationally, Openreach’s Full Fibre network already reaches more than 20 million properties, with plans to expand to 25 million by the end of 2026, and potentially 30 million by 2030.
Residents in Cowes can check whether they are eligible to upgrade by using Openreach’s online Full Fibre checker.
