Three more Isle of Wight primary schools will begin offering free breakfast clubs from September as part of the Government's expanded programme aimed at reducing the cost of the school day for families.

Greenmount Primary School, Newchurch Primary School and Oakfield CE Primary School will join Barton Primary School, Brading CE Primary School and Gatcombe, Lake and Niton Primary Federation, which are already providing the free service.

The Government says more than 2,700 schools across England will be offering free breakfast clubs from September, benefiting around 680,000 children. It estimates families who use the clubs every school day could save up to £450 a year while also receiving additional childcare before lessons begin.

The announcement comes ahead of new rules limiting the number of branded school uniform items that schools can require.

From September, schools must comply with the new legal cap, allowing parents to buy more uniform essentials from supermarkets and other retailers rather than specialist suppliers.

The combined measures could save some families almost £1,000 a year, alongside the expansion of free school meals for eligible households.
