Three key road improvement projects are set to take place across the Isle of Wight this month.

Island Roads has confirmed work will be carried out in Freshwater, Bembridge and Newport after the schemes were postponed late last year due to poor weather. The specialist materials used require dry and mild conditions.

In Heathfield Road, resurfacing will take place from the junction with Colwell Road through to the High Street section completed last November.

Work is due to begin on 20 April and last for three days.

Meanwhile, in Howgate Road, improvements will be carried out between the section completed last year and the junction with Egerton Road.

This scheme is scheduled to start on 23 April and is also expected to take three days.

In Newport, resurfacing will take place along Parkhurst Road, between Clissold Road and a point just south of the HMP Isle of Wight entrance.

Work will begin on 28 April and run over three night-time shifts.

The Parkhurst Road scheme could not be completed during the recent closure of Horsebridge Hill, as it would have effectively cut off access for residents living on the nearby estate.

Heathfield Road and Howgate Road will be closed during the daytime works between 7:30am and 5pm, reopening outside of those hours if it is safe to do so. Parkhurst Road will be closed overnight from 7:30pm to 6am.

The latest schemes follow a first phase of improvements carried out last year, which included works on Mayfield Road, Quay Lane, Shore Road, Freshwater High Street and Arctic Road/Bridge Road in Cowes.

All locations were identified through an annual road condition survey as being among those most in need of improvement, with Parkhurst Road also requiring enhanced skid resistance.

Around seven kilometres of the Island’s road network will have been improved once the April programme is complete.

Island Roads has warned that the schedule remains subject to change, particularly due to weather conditions.
