Thousands Of Isle Of Wight Trees Propagated For Local Planting Projects

More than 3,500 trees have been propagated by Gift to Nature's Community Tree Nursery this year as the project expands its work across the Isle of Wight.

The charity says 3,576 trees covering 19 species are currently being grown, with all seeds used by the nursery collected on the Island.

Work is now underway to create additional bare-root growing beds and improve water storage and irrigation as production increases.

A total of 250 trees are due to be planted or distributed this winter. Half will go to Gift to Nature sites, while another 125 will be given to local schools to mark the 125th anniversary of the Royal Isle of Wight County Show.

The nursery is also preparing to make more trees available for gardens, hedgerows and community planting projects, with a catalogue due to be published shortly.

Volunteers continue to meet at the nursery on Fridays, with autumn activities set to include collecting seeds for next year's propagation.
