The Isle of Wight is set to enjoy a brighter end to Friday after a cloudy start, with forecasters warning that a brief spell of hot weather will return tomorrow before temperatures ease again on Sunday.

According to the IW Met Service, low cloud and hill fog will gradually clear back towards western coastal areas this afternoon, allowing sunny spells to develop across much of the Island.

Temperatures will reach 22-24°C for most, although parts of the north and east could climb as high as 26°C. Coastal areas in the south and west will remain noticeably cooler at around 18-20°C, with a fresh west-southwesterly breeze.

Tonight will begin with clear spells before cloud increases from the west, bringing the chance of a few showers later.

Overnight temperatures will remain mild at 18-20°C, with up to 3mm of rain possible in a few localised spots.

Saturday is expected to start cloudy, but sunshine will quickly develop through the morning, leading to a hot afternoon across much of the Island.

Temperatures are forecast to peak between 28°C and 30°C inland, although areas exposed to the breeze along the coast are likely to remain closer to 23°C.

Earlier today, the IW Met Service warned that, after Friday's cooler conditions, the heat will make a brief return on Saturday under a Level 4 heat alert before a significant cool-down arrives on Sunday.
