Passengers travelling to and from the Isle of Wight are facing significant disruption this afternoon (Friday), as Storm Austen continues to bring strong winds and rough seas to the Solent.

Red Funnel has suspended its vehicle ferry service between East Cowes and Southampton, having operated earlier in the day.

The suspension follows difficulties with a vessel docking in Southampton this afternoon.

Meanwhile, Hovertravel's Ryde to Southsea service remains suspended, while Wightlink has cancelled a number of crossings across all three of its routes:

  • Portsmouth to Fishbourne

  • Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde Pier Head

  • Lymington to Yarmouth

The latest operating status of Red Funnel's Red Jet service between West Cowes and Southampton has not been independently confirmed.

IW Met Service has warned of gusts reaching 60mph, potentially exceeding 70mph in some locations, as Storm Austen moves across the Island.

A yellow weather warning remains in place until 8pm tonight.

Passengers are advised to check directly with their ferry operator before travelling.
