Storm Amy is set to bring strong and gusty winds to parts of England and Wales this Saturday — with the Isle of Wight among the areas expected to feel the impact.

The Met Office says west to southwesterly winds will strengthen through the day, with gusts of 45 to 55 mph likely in many places, and up to 60–65 mph possible along exposed coasts and high ground. Conditions are expected to ease later on Saturday.

What to expect

  • Disruption to bus, train and ferry services, with some delays likely

  • Large waves and spray affecting coastal routes and communities

  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on bridges and exposed roads

  • Short-term power cuts and loss of other services possible

  • Potential disruption to road, rail and air travel

Staying safe

Authorities are urging people to take precautions ahead of the storm.

Travellers are advised to check timetables and road conditions before setting out and to amend plans where necessary.

Residents are also encouraged to prepare for potential power cuts by keeping torches, spare batteries, and charged power packs to hand.

Coastal safety is another key concern. The Met Office warns that large breaking waves can pose a serious risk, even from the shore.

Islanders are reminded to take care near cliffs, keep dogs on leads, and call 999 for the Coastguard in an emergency.

Weather warnings can change quickly, so people are urged to stay up to date with the latest forecast.
