Shed Fire Sparked Evacuation and Road Closure in Newport

Fire crews were called to Staplers Road in Newport yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) after a large garden shed caught fire.

The incident began at around 2.30pm, prompting a response from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.

Police also attended, and nearby residents were temporarily evacuated as a safety measure.

Hose reel jets were used to control the flames, which had fully engulfed the outbuilding.

Traffic heading into Newport was diverted while the emergency response took place.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is now being investigated.
