A number of temporary road closures and traffic restrictions are set to come into force across the Isle of Wight over the coming weeks for utility, maintenance and resurfacing works.

Island Roads has announced closures affecting towns and villages including Ryde, Newport, Ventnor, Freshwater, Whitwell, Yarmouth, Bembridge and Cowes.

Among the major planned works are closures on Church Road and Pitts Lane in Binstead from 25 May until 9 October for phased utility works, while Great Preston Road in Ryde will be subject to a temporary 6ft 6in width restriction between 22 May and 3 July during carriageway maintenance and investigation works.

A number of roads will also face short-term closures for resurfacing, drainage, ironwork and carriageway repairs, including Monkton Street and Lind Street in Ryde, Forest Road in Newport, Leeson Road in Ventnor, Combley Road in Havenstreet and Meadow Way and Royal Street in Sandown.

Drivers in Yarmouth are being warned of closures on Quay Street between 26 and 28 May, alongside a temporary revocation of the one-way system on The Quay to maintain access for businesses and residents.

Meanwhile, Bembridge High Street will close on 25 May for the annual Bembridge Street Fair, with parking restrictions also in place on nearby roads.

Star Street in Ryde will also close on the afternoon and evening of 24 May for the Ryde Town Club Street Party.

Elsewhere, a Highway Clearway Order will be in force on Park Road in Ryde between 15 and 17 May during an event at the Bus Museum.

Island Roads says diversion routes will be signposted locally, while exact timings and lengths of closures may change depending on weather conditions and progress of the works.
