Specialist volunteers have stepped up efforts to find a missing dachshund who has been roaming the countryside around Chillerton and Gatcombe for the past two weeks.

Track A Dog UK was asked by Muffin's owners to assist with the search on Friday (June 26), deploying a daytime team to investigate reported sightings before sending two specialist search dog teams and ground searchers into key areas later in the evening.

Yesterday (Saturday), volunteers returned to install wildlife cameras in strategic locations.

Subject to permission from landowners, further searches were planned for yesterday evening.

While teams were carrying out searches, there was a possible sighting of Muffin, although it could not be confirmed.

Searchers are continuing to appeal to anyone in the Chillerton and Gatcombe area to remain vigilant.

Muffin is described as a small brown dachshund and is believed to be nervous after spending so long away from home.

Anyone who spots him is urged not to call out, chase or attempt to catch him, as this could cause him to run away.

Instead, they should watch where he goes, note the direction he is travelling and, if

possible, take a photograph or video.

Search teams say details such as the exact location, time of the sighting and whether Muffin appears well or injured are all invaluable in helping build a picture of his movements.

Cyclists and walkers using routes around Gatcombe and Chillerton are also being asked to keep an eye out.

Anyone who sees Muffin should report the sighting to Track A Dog UK via Facebook Messenger or by calling 07932 225316.
