Ryde Worker Celebrates 50 Years With Island Dealership

A long-serving member of staff at Van Mossel Esplanade is celebrating an impressive 50 years with the company.
Nigel Smith, who previously managed the Esplanade Car Rental and Accident Repair Centre in Ryde, reached the milestone this month.
Although he officially retired two years ago, Nigel has continued to play an active role within the business, supporting day-to-day operations.
His work now includes delivering vehicles to customers across the UK and helping maintain the company’s Cowes showroom.
Colleagues say Nigel has become a well-known and valued figure over the years, recognised for his dedication and commitment.
Head of Business Brendan Cole described the achievement as “phenomenal”, adding that Nigel remains a much-loved member of the team.
His 50-year career is being seen as a rare example of long-term service, with staff praising his ongoing contribution to the business.
