Rob da Bank’s Music Club will return for its second session next week, following the BBC 6 Music Independent Venue Week Takeover broadcast live from Strings Bar & Venue in Newport.

The national broadcast, which saw Rob da Bank join Steve Lamacq and Huw Stephens to highlight grassroots music and creative access, has helped shine a spotlight on the importance of independent venues.

Now, that momentum is being carried straight into the local community through the Music Club, aimed at supporting young people on the Isle of Wight.

The sessions take place at Strings, which is also taking part in this year’s Independent Venue Week.

The project is a collaboration between Rob da Bank, Strings, industry mentors and the Isle of Wight Youth Trust, ensuring the renewed national focus on live music benefits the Island’s next generation of creatives.

Rob da Bank said it was great to see the Island buzzing with music, adding that bringing the energy from the BBC 6 Music takeover directly into the Music Club made the experience even more special for young people.

The Music Club offers a relaxed and supportive creative space shaped by young people, Rob da Bank and experienced mentors.

Participants can try DJing, songwriting, vocals, playing instruments, and explore technical and behind-the-scenes roles.

The focus is on building confidence, encouraging creativity and giving young people a place to express themselves together.

Paul Savil from the Isle of Wight Youth Trust said free creative spaces that help young people build confidence and connection are especially important, adding that the charity is pleased to work with its patron, Rob da Bank, to support the project.

The next Rob da Bank Music Club sessions will take place at Strings Bar & Venue in Newport on Tuesday 27 January and Tuesday 24 February, from 4.30pm until 6.30pm.

The sessions are free and open to young people aged 11 to 19.
