River Medina Pub Could Receive Facelift

An Isle of Wight pub near the River Medina could receive a facelift.

Punch Pubs Ltd  lodged a listed building consent application with County Hall for a works scheme to improve the ‘visual appearance’ and ‘long-term integrity’ of The Medina Railway Tavern on Newport’s Sea Street.

Submitted plans consist of two components: replacing ‘severely damaged casements to windows on the front and bay window on the end elevation’ and repairing first floor wooden casement windows.

The Medina Railway Tavern is a Grade II listed building dating from the mid-to-late 19th century, according to a statement from Hollington Agency Ltd.

“The proposals are respectful of the listed status of The Medina Railway Tavern, 1 Sea Street

and will result in a positive contribution to the historic environment,” it says.

“The replacement of severely damaged windows and the careful repair of historic fabric align with best conservation practice and will sustain the character and significance of the heritage asset.

“All works will be carried out by a contractor with experience in historic building conservation and joinery.”

County Hall’s public consultation on the proposal 25/00639/LBC will end on June 2 and a decision is due on June 26.
