Several post boxes across the Isle of Wight are currently out of action as Royal Mail introduces a new system that will allow customers to send parcels directly from the street.
The upgraded post boxes will let customers send parcels up to the size of a shoebox and track their items using the Royal Mail app.
Letters can still be posted in the traditional slot, while small packages go into a separate drawer beneath it, powered by a solar panel on the roof.
Royal Mail is rolling out 3,500 of these upgraded post boxes across the UK, following a successful pilot scheme in Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire in April last year.
To send a parcel, customers will need to buy postage online, print a label, and scan a QR code in the Royal Mail app to open the drawer before depositing their item.
It is not yet clear when the new post boxes will be fully operational on the Isle of Wight, but notices have already appeared on existing boxes, including one on Union Street in Ryde.
