Police have arrested a 32-year-old man following a collision in Ryde that left three vehicles damaged on Friday (December 5) night.

Officers attended the incident and detained the man in The Strand on suspicion of drink driving, dangerous driving, failing to stop, and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

He has been bailed with conditions until 12 February while enquiries continue.

The arrest follows reports that a black Toyota Aygo was seen travelling at speed without headlights along Weeks Road shortly before 9.30pm on Friday.

Moments later, the vehicle collided with two parked cars at the junction of Weeks Road and Alfred Street.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary previously said:

“We were called just after 9.30pm on 5 December to a report of a collision involving three vehicles on the junction of Weeks Road and Alfred Street.
"It was reported one vehicle had driven into two parked cars.”

Police have confirmed there is no appeal for information at this stage.
