A disused garage and workshop in St Helens could soon be given a new lease of life – with plans submitted to turn the site into four much-needed flats.
Mr and Mrs Shaw have asked County Hall for permission to convert the former St Helens Service Station on Lower Green Road into three two-bedroom homes and one one-bedroom flat.
According to planning documents, the scheme would suit young professionals, first-time buyers or renters, and downsizers looking to stay in the village.
The application argues the project ticks key boxes in both local and national planning policy, bringing a vacant building back into use while preserving the character of the area.
It adds that the site’s location – just a short walk from shops, bus stops and community facilities – makes it ideal for sustainable living with easy access to public transport.
Public consultation on the application (25/01388/FUL) is open until 24 October, with a decision expected on 14 November.
