A former Boots store in the centre of Sandown could be partly converted into residential accommodation under new proposals.

An application has been submitted to the Isle of Wight Council seeking prior approval to create a ground-floor apartment at 107 High Street, which is currently vacant.

The plans, put forward by Nicola Stewart, would see a one-bedroom flat installed within the building while retaining the shopfront for commercial use.

If approved, the property would include a living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and WC.

A planning statement from Andrew White Planning Consultancy says the surrounding area is largely residential above ground-floor level, with neighbouring commercial premises including a shop and a hairdresser that generate very little noise.

The document states this means there is unlikely to be any negative impact on future residents of the proposed apartment.

Public consultation on the plans — application 26/00009/3MAPA — is open until 7 April, with a decision expected on 28 April.
