Plans have been put forward to bring four disused farm barns in the Isle of Wight National Landscape back into use for a range of commercial purposes.

RW and JSW Fisk Partnership has submitted a prior approval application to the Isle of Wight Council seeking permission to change the use of existing agricultural buildings at Marsh Green Farm, Brighstone.

The proposals would allow for a variety of flexible uses, including industrial, storage and distribution, hotel accommodation, business or service use, outdoor recreation, or agricultural training.

According to a planning statement, the scheme supports national efforts to boost rural economic growth and help farmers diversify their businesses.

It is also stated that no external alterations are planned, meaning the appearance of the buildings and their impact on the surrounding landscape would remain unchanged.

The setting of nearby heritage assets is also expected to be preserved.

The application adds that there would be no significant impacts on highways, noise levels, contamination or flood risk.

A public consultation on the plans is now underway and runs until 27 April, with a decision expected in early May.
