Efforts to improve transport across the Isle of Wight have moved forward following a meeting of key industry leaders, operators and council representatives.
The Island Transport and Infrastructure Forum met earlier this month to discuss how the Island's transport network can become more reliable, better connected and more resilient in the years ahead.
Representatives from ferry, bus and rail operators joined Island Roads, Visit Isle of Wight, the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce and the Isle of Wight Council for the discussions.
A number of day-to-day issues were on the agenda, including better coordination of roadworks, improving communication during travel disruption, creating more opportunities for young people to travel and exploring integrated ticketing across different transport services.
Members also welcomed progress made by the newly formed Isle of Wight Highway Authorities and Utilities Committee, which brings together the council, Island Roads and utility companies to improve coordination and help reduce unnecessary disruption caused by roadworks and infrastructure projects.
The Forum also looked further ahead, discussing how technology, transport data and infrastructure planning could shape the future of travel on the Isle of Wight.
Potential improvements considered included greater use of public transport, active travel options such as walking and cycling, and opportunities to make better use of water-based transport links around the Island.
Those involved agreed to continue developing ideas as part of the Island Transport implementation plan and to work closely with both the new Isle of Wight Council administration and the Hampshire and Solent County Combined Authority.
The next meeting of the Island Transport and Infrastructure Forum will take place on 21 September.
